The SHIKI Debut

I'm feeling a little lost at the moment. The last 2 and half months were spent on a big project in Second Life with two friends from Japan, Shinichi and Jeckie. We were designing and building a commercial east-west fusion 'sim' (a region, basically).

The launch party for Shiki took place on Saturday, and it went marvellously well (pix below), with a full house of 80 peeps in attendance and some wonderful SL artistes performing, including Tuna Oddfellow (who's a magician in both real life and Second Life!), Rocco Silverstar, Arahan Claveau, and CQ Bravin (mentioned in an earlier post).
Special thanks to Tillie Ariantho for the marvellous pix.  :) Tillie's full set of photos can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tillie/sets/72157606627362159/

Ah well, just have to grit my teeth and get to grips with First Life now.

The Colorful Quiet

I met CQ Bravin in Second Life today, listening to a live concert being given in-world. Someone had complimented him on his music, and a few quick clicks later, I'd learnt that CQ Bravin was Stephen Webster in First Life, and the singer-songwriter behind 'The Colorful Quiet'. I was completely charmed and won over by the simplicity and purity of his songs. Check out The Colorful Quiet on MySpace.

Fat Princess

Meet Fat Princess, the star of Sony's upcoming video game of the same name. It's capture-the-flag - except that, in this case, said flag has morphed into a princess, who starts the game thin, but whom you can make harder to capture by locking her up in a dungeon and force-feeding her with cream cakes, so that your enemy has a harder time hauling her back to their fiefdom! The game's got feminists properly riled and up in arms.

A Lil' City Lovin'

Wired's latest photo challenge involves to send in cityscapes that really capture the spirit of  your town or city. A lot of care, love and thought have gone into a good majority of the pictures. Here's the link. Shown here is Joan Leong's 'The Singapore Flyer', Singapore's equiv of London's Millenium Eye.

Gorgeous Tiny Chicken Machine Show

I'm not sure if this is a celebration or send-up of Japlish, but either way it's lots of fun!

Wildlife with Wallpaper

It's easy to take photos of cute cuddly puppies and kittens - that bit harder to get an 'aww shucks' out of your audience when your subject matter's a vulture, or even a sloth. Catherine Ledner manages to tread that fine line between mawkish and cute, though, by capturing animals against vintage wallpaper backdrops. See the rest of her collection here.

Star Wars vs the Old Masters

Yesterday's Worth1000's photoshopping contest's theme was Star Wars vs Fine Art. Lovely entries all round, and I've placed some of my favs here, including aards2's 'Pet' (A Bouguereau-AT-AT mashup).
